Easy Crepe Paper Carnations Tutorial

I was going through some boxes in my closet and found a few packages of streamers I had forgotten about.   I decided to get them out and see what I could do with them.  I'm always working with paper and fabric strips trying to make flowers so I thought these streamers may make a cute flower. I ended up putting a stitch down the edge, gathering them and rolling them up. They turned out really cute, just like carnations!  I also made some rolled flowers or cabbage roses, I think they call them, which turned out really cute too.  I decided to do a tutorial on how to make each of these.  There is a link to it at the end of this post.

Sequin Firecracker Decorations

I have a great 4th of July craft that I want to share!  There is nothing more frugal than being able to turn toilet paper tubes that would normally land in the trash can into glamorous and glitzy firework decorations for the 4th of July.  You won't believe how easy they are to create!

Memorial Day/4th of July Wreaths Round-Up

Memorial Day has come and gone and the 4th of July is fast approaching.  It's time to start thinking about decorations!  I missed decorating this year for Memorial Day because we were in the middle of a move but never hurts to look for ideas for next year and also for 4th of July, coming up!!  I decided to feature some super cute patriotic wreaths I found as I was looking around today.

 This wreath made from balloons is so neat!  I like how it has the light and dark blue balloons along with red and white. It's actually for a July birthday (so cute!) but you could change up the sign and put Happy 4th or Celebrate.. LOVE THIS!!!

Cute TP Butterflies and Chalkboard Project

My friend Sunny sent me these cute toilet paper tube butterflies!  Aren't they sooo cute?!  She also made the chalkboard in the background. Notice the cute matching butterfly cutout in the top pic.  Can you guess how she made this chalkboard?  Chalkboard Contact Paper!!!!   Yes, that's right... contact paper and no messy paint :)  I'm not opposed to the chalkboard paint.. I think it's really neat but I can hardly wait to make some chalkboard crafts of my own with this chalkboard contact paper.  I will update this post with the tutorial for the TP butterflies as soon as she posts it.

DIY Coasters!

Here is a small round-up of DIY drink coaster tutorials.  I saw this first set and couldn't help myself from seeing what other ones were out there..

I happened upon Chica and Jo today and found these super cute coasters! I love the bright colors and they are so easy to make.. or at least they look easy but best of all they don't cost a ton to make.. Curly ribbon comes in tons of bright beautiful colors and they do not cost a lot either.

re-purposed coasters @ Evie S.

I love these DIY re-purposed coasters that I found at Evie S. These were made by covering an old set of coasters and they turned out great!   If you don't have any old coasters to re-purpose, you could always use some of those round coasters from Chilis or other restaurants. I don't see why those couldn't work as well.  Of course, you could always get some thin cork board and cut it in whatever shape you like or maybe glue a couple layers of it together and cover it with pretty paper like these were. 

DIY coasters @ Craft Envy

Take a look at this pretty set of coasters I found at Craft Envy!  You will not believe how easy these are to make.. it's almost mind blowing. Go have a look and be amazed..  I already have everything needed except 4 blank tiles... hope I remember these next time in Lowe's.

duct tape coasters@ Natalie's Creations

 Look what you can make with some cardboard circles and decorative duct tape! The more things I see made with decorative duct tape, the more I want some... it comes in all different colors and designs, too.  I found this clever DIY coaster idea at Natalie's Creations!  P.S. DIY Coaster Tiles @ Purplest Pecalin

I found these gorgeous DIY coaster tiles at Purplest Pecalin along with another fabulous pair....   As I sat looking at these tiles, I quickly determined that they would look just as pretty hanging on a wall as they wood laying on a table.   They turned out amazing.... love them!

travertine coaster tiles@Hey, Let's Rock!

Look at these pretty tile coasters I found at Hey, Let's Rock! These are a little different than the other tiles in that they are made with the travertine tiles. I LOVE the rustic look of them.  It's interesting too that even though the designs look painted on, they were actually stenciled and then colored in with a black Sharpie.  That's pretty cool!

Antique Button Crafts and Decor

I made both of these with some antique buttons that were in a jar that I acquired after my grandmother on my dad's side passed away.  The buttons are so pretty..  many of them were more fancy rather than just ordinary buttons.  Some were glass and metal, too.

Photo #1--The top one was made by cutting a heart shape out of card board and then I hot glued the buttons to the cardboard. On the back side of the cardboard I hot glued a piece of wire to it for a hanger.  The frame was just a dollar store frame that I took the back and glass out of. I then connected the wire to the top of the frame for a hanger and tied a raffia bow and stuck a button in the middle of the bow.   I first hung the button heart, and then hung the frame around it.

Photo #2-- I threaded wire up and back through layers of buttons and then twisted the wire together to make the stems.  It's very easy to do and they turn out so cute!

DIY Twine Balls

I found these lights on Ebay and I absolutely fell in love with them.  I love the rattan balls for decor and this is exactly what these are but mounted on a string of lights. These would be really nice in a little girls bedroom or even some blue ones for a little boy.   I actually attempted making some of these for my little boy.  He was having trouble getting to sleep because he needed a good night light so I thought making some of these may help.   I actually tried to put large hexagon blue-green glitter on them to just add a bit of sparkle to the light but it turned out not to be such a great idea as the glitter was too big and was falling off everywhere. Plus, after the fact I was thinking to myself why would I put glitter on things for a boys room?
Anyway, I wanted to share with you my attempt at these.  I am going to make some more but skip the glitter next time. I'll post the tutorial when I make them!

My first attempt:

I actually made them out of jute.. but they can be made with any soft string that can be starched stiff.  Also it may be best to use the preferred color of string or twine instead of painting them afterwards. These would have actually been fine if I had left the glitter off and left them natural. They would have made great home decor just lying in a bowl.

I am going to make some again and then I'll post the tutorial with photos.
